Running in nature - 'Pangot Run'

If you want to feel the place, just run it!

This time its 'Pangot', a village 18Kms away from Nainital in kumaon region of uttarakhand.

It was all of a sudden plan to visit some colder place nearby. My wife ringed me on Friday if we could go somewhere as its too hot in Delhi. "Search some offbeat place but not more than 300KMs one way" I responded. She chose Pangot and we both agreed.

At 1 am we left Noida to avoid traffic on NH24 because of ongoing constructions. At 9 AM we were in Pangot, such a serene place! Would recommend 100% must visit if you are not very fond of  crowded mussorie, shimla, nainital, manali etc. A place full of green forest and hundreds of bird species chirping all around! One mistake we did was we reached without bird watching scope! Its a must for this place.

Pangot forest:

Every time we visit any place, i come prepared with running shoes and watch that I will run the place but it never happens (Yes! I am the lazy one!) except one manali trip where i did 10K on rohtang to leh highway with Amresh bhai! But this time I was motivated enough after reading one blog from a very dear tri-athlete friend praveen that how he managed his training when he had to meet all the family commitments in Shirdi. Positive people really inspire you so always be surrounded by them :)

Anyways, a sleep deprived person tried to manage it by sleeping for 2 hours followed by some meditation arter reaching the hotel. Then, i went to some local restaurant to bring food for everyone. That was the time when i decided to skip the lunch and run the place. So, while the food was getting prepared i met few local elderly people and chatted about the place: if there are any dangerous animals, routes, any must visit place on the route etc.

Decided route was:

After gathering all the information, laced up my shoes and went for the run. Within 5 minutes My HR reached 130 and i realized how body reacts after hectic schedule. Stayed calm, started deep breathing,
focused on uphill posture, still 125. Then, i continued after warm-up on steep uphill: it soared to 168. Started walking realizing the fact that if mountains are getting tougher on you, show some respect to them- that was the main mantra on my ladakh marathon. Never try to conquer them, just flow with them, always try to listen to what they want to convey with inclines or declines. After some walk, reached to the peak of my journey but HR was still 138-140. Then it was downhill and  it reached to 120 within few seconds of running and it really gave me some boost as recovery was as fast as work-out. Continued, continued and continued... Ran almost all routes of patong amidst chirping of birds and green oak, devdaar trees.. finished 21.1K in 2:48 at average HR 145.

Crime partner helped me during cool-down:

See you next time, next run at next place!
